installation
first you must have python installed. you can find everything you need to get python running with xsi on the softimage wiki...

after you have python running download this simple python script, and place it the 'application/plugins' folder of the factory, user, or any workgroup location...

lookthroughspot.py

now you can restart xsi or go to file>plug-in manager... then click 'update all' to load the plugin.

usage
all of these examples require you to select a spot light you wish to look through...

the first example of usage is using the 'views menu' to look through a spot light you have selected. you will find a command on each of your viewports...

if for some reason you dont have a light selected you will get this...

if you dont have a spotlight selected you will get a error when you run the command...

the second example is using the 3d context menus. with all the new interaction model options i am not sure how to get context menus in all them. i have to alt+right-click to get an object context menu. the four options are self-explanatory...

the last example uses the context menu in the explorer. simply right-click on a selected light...

summary
this tool isn't groundbreaking by any means. i have a feeling others have wrote something similar, but i wanted to focus more on the workflow of the tool. this tool speeds my workflow when lighting with many lights. i no longer have to know the name of the light before i visit the 'spot lights' list in the 'views menu'. hell i no longer have to use that list, period! anyways feel free to contact me with any comments, suggestions, or bug reports. thanks and enjoy!
